Volunteering

Volunteers play an important role at Calderdale Museums, contributing to the work of the Museum Service in many different ways. The roles available vary from visitor facing roles to providing essential support to staff from the Museum’s Collections and Education departments.

It is our aim to work with volunteers and student placements to develop new skills, whilst supporting the Museum Service.

Volunteering is very popular at Calderdale Museums, so spaces are limited.

Opportunities fall into three main areas; visitor engagement, supporting education in museums and working with collections. For further information and other volunteering opportunities click here.

Work Experience & University Student Placements

We offer work experience placements for school students and placements for students in further education. These placements provide students with the opportunity to work within a museum setting, deal with collections and documentation, plan and carry-out projects and to research relevant subjects.

Recruitment for student placements is ongoing. We welcome enquiries from students throughout the year, and therefore may be able to offer further placements beyond those advertised. Please not that placement opportunities are often oversubscribed, and so it is best to apply as early as possible.

To apply for a placement please send a CV and brief covering letter (including the dates you are available and the skills/experience you wish to achieve from the placement) to: volunteer@calderdale.gov.uk
