Join us for a day of celebration on Saint Catherine's Day, the 25th November for free talks, demonstrations and activities suitable for all ages and those new to and experienced with hats. The event will be hosted by members of Vendredi Millinery Group, whose exhibition 'A Hat or a Husband?' in the Marble Gallery showcases newly made and historic hats to celebrate the Patron Saint of Milliners, Saint Catherine.
Explore the history of millinery, local hat makers, hat making skills and tools and hear about Saint Catherine and the 'Catherinettes' traditions. The day will feature a pop-up-shop with hats for sale, milliners at work showcasing elements of hat making including blocking and steaming, a millinery talk in the Oak Gallery at 12pm and 2pm and tea and cake available to buy.
