A celebration of shoes from Wellingtons to Winklepickers, Stilettos to Sandals!
New exhibition exploring the large and varied shoe collection at Calderdale Museums, from grand Georgian shoes to the swinging sixties we’ll be discovering the history of this fascinating fashion item and telling the stories of the people who wore them.
The exhibition includes ‘winning shoes’ from Olympic Athletes, Jonathan Brownlee and Tyler Harding. Alongside local legends; the Captain’s boots from Halifax Championship Rugby League Club and roller derby skates from the Halifax Bruising Banditas. There’ll be glamour and glitz with loans from Northern Ballet and Championship Ballroom dancers. With many other loans from local people who all share our love of shoes!
The exhibition continues into the Marble Gallery where students from Kirklees College will be showcasing exciting new work inspired by the Shoe collection.
Join us for our opening event on Saturday the 16 June and free talks on 'Frontline Footwear' on the 4 August and 'Stories from the Georgian City' on 22 September. Or book a place on our Turn Shoe Workshop on the 6th October.
