Vintage Sewing Machines: Treadle Through Time

This event takes place at Bankfield Museum

Take in the beauty and ingenuity of a selection of sewing machines manufactured c1869 – 1955, with local Vintage Sewing Machine enthusiast Jeanette Spriggs, and see how key features developed at the hands of skilled engineers to create models still much sort after today.

The event will showcase vintage sewing machines manufactured both locally and afar, including the curvaceous Jones Serpentine from Manchester, a well-travelled Little Wanzer from Canada, an 1870’s Willcox and Gibbs copy from Germany and the Scottish made much sought-after Singer 221k and Singer 201k.

Due to their popularity, this is our sixth vintage sewing machine event of 2025 and will feature a selection of machines we have not previously demonstrated. It is suitable for anyone interested in collecting or using vintage machines, as well as those with an interest in social and engineering history.

We have limited availability to ensure everyone gets a seat! Book your place today and join our vintage sewing exploration.

Please note this is a demonstration only event. Keep checking our upcoming events for our small group workshops in which participants will have the opportunity to sew with a vintage sewing machine and their incredible attachments.
