About the event
Meet the makers!
We are delighted to announce that members of the British Tapestry Group will be joining us at Bankfield Museum for a series of free tapestry demonstrations.
As part of Tapestry of the North, on select days over the coming months, each weaver will be demonstrating their own styles and techniques and celebrating what makes their practice unique.
As Sally Reckert, joint exhibition curator said "A tapestry is not just a picture. It’s often described as a conversation between the weaver, the threads and the loom, slowly brought to life by hand.”
Visitors are invited to join this conversation and even have a go themselves.
Main Hall, Bankfield Museum, free entry
Alison Carthy, 11am to 3pm, Thursday 15 October, 10 December
Kati Paakki, 11am to 3pm, Tuesday 10, 17, 24 November
Sally Reckert, 12pm to 3pm, Thursday 29 October, 3, 17 December
These free sessions are part of the Tapestry of the North which showcases a selection of stunning tapestries from northern members of the British Tapestry Group. On display until Saturday 6 March 2027.
We hope to welcome you soon!
